BREEDING

Plant breeding in different crops mainly in Lupine, wheat and oats for Chilean conditions.
The chief geneticist is Don Erik von Baer, who works with the collaboration of his technical team where his daughter Ingrid von Baer stands out.
Launch of wheat varieties specially adapted to Chilean conditions
- Tolerance to acid soils and high concentration of Aluminum
- Tolerant to diseases and low use of agrochemicals
They have launched 25 varieties of wheat, 4 of oats, 6 of lupine, 3 of triticale, 3 of barley, 1 quinoa.
2008 Agricultural Innovation Prize for the introduction of wheat varieties with resistance to the Imidazolinone group of herbicides.
Contribution to the national agriculture with the introduction of the Lupinos Albus, lupino luteos, lupino angustifolio and Canola raps to Chile.
Contribution with the introduction of wheats winter Durum Wheat.
Introduces Lupino in 1978 as a grain crop, as a profitable alternative for Mapuche Campesino Agriculture.
Development of wheat varieties for specific use as biscuit, baker and durum wheats, being validated from Curicó to Aysén.
Massive introduction of Lupino and development of new cultivars. It stands out in 1986 the unique obtaining of Cultivar Free of Alcaloides of Lupinus Mutabilis, that is characterized by its high content of oil and Protein, whose origin is the Andean area. Previously only sweet forms had been obtained in the Old World (Sengbusch 1928-1930)
At the beginning of the 1980s, the Peneca variety was launched and in the 1990s, Otto stood out, specially formulated for the southern soil.
In 1993, the Otto wheat variety consolidated itself as the most important wheat variety in the south of Chile, increasing not only the yield but also the industrial quality of the wheats previously considered inferior to those of the central zone.
The company has managed to introduce the lupine massively and develop new cultivars. It is recognized for obtaining wheat varieties, which have achieved national connotation, mainly in the south and center south of the country, which are characterized by their tolerance to toxic aluminum in acid soils, characteristic of the soils of the area. Campex Baer has obtained several successful wheat varieties in the agricultural market. Some of them are: Intermedio (1968), Éxito (1978), Export (1980), As (1983), Peneca (1983), Pillan (1988), Paleta (1986), Colono (1987), Otto (1990), Taita (1994), Crac (1995), Quijote (1997), Caluga (2000), Fritz (2005), Invento y Impulso (2007), Maxi (2008), Ñeke, among others.
We have a germplasm bank in situ and ex situ of different species that are of vital importance for national agriculture, helping to care for the genetic heritage of Chile.
Campex Baer was a pioneer in the evaluation and introduction of hybrid raps from foreign seed houses, mainly of material of German origin. The introduction of these new hybrids, more yielding, with better tolerance to diseases and good oil content, allowed in part the development of the crop in the south of Chile.
